Lashon Academy Student Technology Policy & Acceptable Internet Use Agreement

Lashon offers students access to technologies that may include Internet access, electronic mail, and equipment, such as computers, tablets, or other multimedia hardware. By its adoption of this Policy, the Board intends that technological resources provided by the Lashon be used in a safe, responsible, and proper manner in support of the instructional program and for the advancement of student learning.

Use of Lashon equipment and access to the Internet via Lashon equipment and resource networks is intended to serve and pursue educational goals and purposes. Student use of the Internet is therefore limited to only those activities that further or enhance the delivery of an educational purpose. Students and staff have a duty to use Lashon resources only in a manner specified in school policy.

Before a student is authorized to use the Lashon’s technological resources, the student and the student’s parent/guardian shall sign and return the Acceptable Use Agreement specifying user obligations and responsibilities. A copy of the complete Student Use of Technology Policy and Acceptable Use Agreement is available for review in the main office and on the school website.

Electronic Device And Personal Item Policy

It is the policy of Lashon Academy to prohibit the use of cellular phones or any electronic mobile device and personal items (i.e.: toys) by students on campus during normal school hours. To improve teaching and learning, we are using a system called Yondr, which has been implemented in over 1,000 schools across 21 countries to facilitate an engaged learning environment. We believe that phones have great utility. We have also found that learning and social behavior improve drastically when students are fully engaged with their teachers and classmates.

The Yondr Program utilizes a simple, secure pouch that stores a phone. It is the policy of Lashon Academy to prohibit the use of cell phones/air pods on campus during normal school hours. Students are permitted to possess cell phones, but the device will need to be turned off and stored in a Yondr Pouch, which will be provided to them by homeroom teachers. Homeroom teachers will safely keep and store Yondr Pouches in their classroom and will return the devices to students at the end of the day. Students will receive one PBIS point for following this policy. Points will be awarded during Homeroom period. Students will receive a Major ODR if caught using a cell phone during school hours. This policy is pursuant to AB 3216.
